Thank you for working with Iskashitaa Refugee Network to organize a group volunteering event for your group members. We hope that by working together we can improve how we provide services and resources to the refugee community in Tucson to help rebuild their lives through our programs.

What programs are you interested in?
Group Harvesting
Intended group ages: All ages (Youth with adult supervision)

Volunteers and United Nations Refugees will jointly harvest local fruits and vegetables from local backyards and farms. Refugees will have a chance to practice their English skills and learn about American culture with volunteers.
Redistribution of Locally Harvested Fruits/Vegetables
Intended group ages: All ages (Youth with adult supervision)

Volunteers will redistribute local Iskashitaa harvested fruits and vegetables to our community partners or directly to refugee families.
Refugee 101 Information Session
Intended audience: All ages, community groups, schools, church groups, etc.

Discussion topics: What is a refugee? Where do refugees come from? Brief history of refugees’ home countries, Refugee experiences, What is Iskashitaa?, Iskashitaa programming, Volunteer opportunities.
Food Preservation / Group Cooking
Intended group ages: All ages (Youth with adult supervision)

Volunteers and United Nations Refugees will jointly prepare and cook local Iskashitaa harvested fruits and vegetables. Cross cultural recipes will be used in the preparation process. Volunteers and Refugees will share cooking techniques. Refugees will have a chance to practice their English skills in conversation with volunteers. Volunteers will familiarize refugees with American kitchen appliances within a commercial kitchen.

Flyering a Neighborhood
Intended group ages: All ages (Youth with adult supervision)

Volunteers and United Nations Refugees will distribute Iskashitaa flyers door to door to locate fruits for future harvests to diminish food waste.

To help us cover the costs of offering these cultural immersion and service learning opportunities, we are requesting a program fee of $50-$500 per group, commensurate with group size and the group’s ability to contribute to our mission of feeding families and assisting refugees on their journeys to self-sufficiency in AZ.
