Iskashitaa Refugee Sewing and Crafts Circle

Why is the Iskashitaa Refugee Sewing and Crafts Circle (IRSCC) Important?

Iskashitaa's sewing and crafts program provide opportunities for refugees to use skills from their native country to create items for use in their home and to be sold for revenue. It is a wonderful opportunity for refugees to interact with Tucson locals. These interactions lead to English language learning, understanding of cultural differences, and important links to Tucson life.

Who is Involved?

Iskashitaa crafters and volunteers with the craft program are from all walks of life. Refugee crafters are from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Volunteers with the craft program are from all age, socieo-economic, and political backgrounds.

Where do we get supplies?

Donations come from many sources and are quickly placed back out into the refugee community for use. Donations of sewing machines are checked and quickly sent to families in need. Fabric is checked for quality and used by crafting groups. We particularly need nice fleece, thread, and buttons. Please remember when sending donations that they must be nice enough to be reused. This means that small stains are fine but fabric that is worn out will not be used.
